My daughter has allergies. If you would've asked me two years ago if she had allergies, I would have told you no. She never used to get ear infections, or show any adverse reactions to foods. Where did the allergies come from?
I have a theory that the antibiotics that we had to put her on for her first ear infection lowered her immune system and has made her more susceptible to allergens. I'm probably full of shit, I'm probably looking for a scapegoat because I really have no idea what to think.
Her ear infections are very frequent these days. The last time we took her to the doctor, they put her on a daily dose of Zyrtec and Singulair. In theory, these would put an end to the seasonal allergies that create the block in her eustachian tubes. They didn't work, she came down with another infection on Tuesday night.
She's on another round of Azithromycin. I'm very nervous about having her on constant antibiotics. I've heard of life threatening illnesses that come up from antibiotics wiping out all of the bacteria in your system. I've been desperately trying to get her to drink probiotics to restore those bacteria but she's a kid, she doesn't know why she needs to drink it so she doesn't.
Allergies are common for kids with Autism. I've read that kids with developmental delays will have problems with acid reflux. The acid builds up in their esophagus and it gives them an upset stomach. They will often hit their hand against their chest because they feel a burning but can't communicate their pain so they just live with it.
I'm sure that Mia's developmental delays in speech are related to ear infections in some way. She has an excess of fluid in her ears, and they ache. She has no way to tell us, that pain has even become normal for her. She doesn't hear words correctly so as a result, she doesn't know how to talk.
